The Current Situation

There are very few Holocaust survivors left in the world. They are evidence of this devastating part of history that will forever change lives. Many Holocaust survivors have to live the rest of their lives not ever knowing what happened to their family and trying to think of their last good byes. “The impact of the Holocaust on the history of European culture, and on Jewish history specifically, has been so profound that it almost defies conceptualization”(Rabinach3). Memorials and other ways to remember the lost souls in the Holocaust are present today and recognize the brave people who suffered through a painful death. January 27 is Rememberance Day for the Jewish people. It was the hard for the Jews to do anything at the time because they had no idea what was going on. “Overnight, as it were, the entire history of the Jews and their place in European culture had to be rewritten. This reconsideration of the place of the Jews in history of Europe has been a central preoccupation of historians and philosophers since 1945” (Rabinach3). In the Holocaust it is estimated that there were 17 million people killed and 6 to 7 million of those poeple were Jews.

We also saw the New England Holocaust Memorial which was really something to see
in person. There are six million numbers like these etched in 6 pillars of
glass and are reminiscent of the tattoos that the Nazi’s gave their
victims. It was powerful to see them up close…. N.d. Designojek. N.p., n.d.
